Man whose carer was found dead arrested at crash scene after pursuit
A man whose female caregiver was found dead in his home had been involved in a police chase and crashed, allegedly hundreds of kilometers from his home, just before his arrest.
The 46-year-old nanny’s family reported her missing around 1am on Monday and investigating police went to the home on Waterford Tamborine Road in Logan, Buccan, where they found the body on the back deck.
The 36-year-old man who lived at the property was not there when police arrived.
Officers tracked him to northern NSW and officers in that state tried to stop him near Coffs Harbor around 3pm.
He allegedly refused to stop and the high-speed chase continued for approximately 80 kilometers through Valla, Nambucca Heads, Macksville, Warrell Creek and Eungai Creek.
The driver crashed into a culvert on Stuarts Point Road in Yarrahapinni, where he was arrested.
He was taken to Kempsey Police Station and hit with pursuit-related charges.
The man had not been charged with any crime in connection with the woman’s death as of Tuesday morning.
Logan’s home was declared a crime scene and forensic police remained at the scene until late Monday night.
“Man expected to appear in court in NSW [on Tuesday] and detectives… they’ll travel to talk [him]said a Queensland police spokesman.
“Police will wait for the autopsy results to determine the woman’s cause of death.”
Logan district Acting Detective Inspector Justin Anderson said SES workers would search the five-acre Buccan property, including a dam.
“We will be looking for anything that can help provide us with answers regarding the events that led to this woman’s death,” Anderson said.
Queensland Police Minister Dan Purdie said the sudden death was a “tragic situation” and that the homicide squad was involved in the investigation.
