Man cleared of Jill Dando’s murder charged with rape of 14-year-old

The man, who was cleared of killing TV presenter Jill Dando, will be accused of raping a 14 -year -old girl more than 35 years next month.
The metropolitan police said on Friday that Barry George was accused of a number of rape and two points of immoral attacks.
Met, a 14 -year -old girl, who is currently in the 50s, said that between September 6 and September 12, 1987, sexually assaulted in two separate incidents in Western London.
65 -year -old George was arrested in 2000 on suspicion of murder a year after Mrs. Dando was killed.
He was convicted in 2001, but the conviction was broken by the Court of Appeal in November 2007 and was cleared by a jury in August 2008 after a re -trial.
On October 29, he will appear at the Westminster Magistrate Court.
Detective Director Andy Furphy said on Friday: “These accusations follow the investigation of the Met Met Detectives team.
“Specially trained civil servants continue to support the prominent woman.”
CPS London South Chief Prosecutor Lionel Idan said: “The Royal Prosecutor’s Office, who carefully examined a evidence file, decided to prosecute the 65 -year -old Barry George on charges of rape and two countless attacks.
“These are about insecure allegations against a young woman who was young at that time.”
He added: uz We worry that the procedures for the suspect are active and have the right to a fair trial.
“It is likely to show great interest in this case, but it is very important that there is no reporting, comments or online information sharing that may be prejudiced in any way.”
The 37 -year -old Krimewatch presenter Ms. Dando was one of the highest profile stars of the BBC when she was shot outside her home in Fulham in Western London on April 26, 1999.
No one has been convicted of killing since then.
