Married at First Sight UK star arrested on suspicion of rape

Following the broadcast of the Panorama episode, the Metropolitan Police encouraged “anyone who believes they have been a victim of sexual assault” to contact them following an appearance on Married at First Sight UK.

In a new statement to BBC News, the Metropolitan Police said: “This relates to an ongoing investigation by the Met Police.

“He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.”

Billed as a “bold social experiment”, Married at First Sight UK (known to many as MAFS) sees single people agreeing to “marry” complete strangers after meeting for the first time at their fake wedding.

The UK version, which has run for 10 seasons, is one of Channel 4’s biggest programmes, with viewership often exceeding three million.

In May, Channel 4 pulled all episodes of the program from its streaming service just hours before the Panorama investigation was broadcast.

A decision has not yet been made as to whether the last series of the series, which has been shot before, will be broadcast.

The publisher said its review of MAFS UK will be completed towards the end of this summer. But it plans to release only “a summary of the findings” rather than the full report.

Lawyers for independent production company CPL, which produces the UK version of the series, have previously said the benefits system is the “gold standard” and industry leading.
