Trans killer, 30, who executed her parents then converted to Islam is jailed for 25 years after trying to skip ‘stressful’ sentencing

The transgender murderer who killed his parents told the judge that he converted to Islam behind bars while he was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
Mia Bailey, 30, pleaded with a judge to let her miss a Utah court hearing Friday, expressing concern that reliving the details of her crimes could lead to a mental breakdown.
He was sentenced to two consecutive 25-year-to-life sentences for the murder of his parents, Joseph and Gail Bailey.
Bailey was also sentenced to up to five years in prison for aggravated assault for shooting at his brother during the same incident. He locked himself in his bedroom with his wife.
In a statement read on his behalf in the courtroom by Bailey’s attorney, Ryan Stout, the convicted killer revealed that he had become a devout Muslim behind bars.
“As a Muslim, it would be appropriate to take my life as atonement for what I have done in accordance with my religious beliefs,” he said.
Stout also explained that Bailey, who changed his name and gender about a year before the June 2024 murders, was diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, anxiety, depression, psychosis, possible bipolar disorder with psychosis, and schizophrenia.

His siblings also testified to the court and stated that they feared for their lives.
“The best thing for us and for Mia is probably to stay in prison for as long as possible,” Corey Bailey told the judge.
‘We lost our parents and in many ways we also lost a brother. So no matter what, we lose as a family in this sentence.’
He acknowledged that he did not believe Bailey was sane at the time of the murders but still feared what might have happened.
Bailey’s other brother, Dustin, addressed him directly with his statement, noting: ‘It was obvious you were not safe or well.’

But Dustin said their mother, Gail, was always Bailey’s foremost advocate and defender, and did everything she could to get Bailey’s help.
‘When Mia struggled, Gail’s reaction wasn’t disappointment or withdrawal. “It was an insistence,” Dustin said.
