NSW Police arrest 19-year-old man after pregnant woman dies following two-vehicle Hornsby crash

The woman, who was eight months pregnant, died after being hit by a BMW in an accident involving two vehicles.

The horrific incident took place at around 8pm last night at the entrance to a car park on George St in Hornsby, in Sydney’s northwest, NSW Police said in a statement.

After medical teams treated the 33-year-old woman at the scene, she was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, where she died.

The baby also passed away.

The accident involved a 19-year-old driver of a white BMW and a 48-year-old driver of a silver Kia Carnival station wagon.

Both drivers were taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing and neither were injured.

There were no other passengers in the vehicles.

Accident Investigation Unit teams launched an investigation into the incident.

At around 12.45am on Saturday morning, police arrested the 19-year-old at a home on Millewa Ave in Wahroonga and took him to Hornsby Police Station.

A lawsuit was filed for the crimes of dangerous driving causing death, negligent driving (causing death) and causing loss of the fetus, that is, causing the death of a pregnant woman.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court today.
