NSW to construct 100 new public preschools

Construction begins on 100 new public nurseries in NSW; This is the largest expansion of early learning in the state’s history.
The NSW government has invested $769 million to build facilities that will double the number of public nurseries across the state.
This means new public nurseries have been built in NSW for the first time in two decades. 51 new facilities will be built in the Sydney metro area and 49 in the NSW region.
Once completed, public nurseries in NSW will host up to 9000 children.
Premier Chris Minns said new public preschools would give thousands of children across NSW the best possible start in life.
“For too long, families have struggled to find affordable, high-quality early education close to home,” she said.
“We are changing this by building public kindergartens alongside public schools to make life easier for parents and give every child the opportunity to thrive.
“The previous government didn’t build a single public nursery school in 12 years. We’re building 100 because every child in NSW deserves access to early learning, no matter where they live.”
Acting Minister for Education and Early Learning Courtney Houssos said families in Western Sydney and regional NSW had limited access to quality early childhood education for too long.
