The much-awaited Ganga Expressway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj is nearing completion with construction work reaching its final stages. This 594-kilometer-long highway is expected to revolutionize connectivity in Uttar Pradesh, making it easier for thousands of people to travel across the state.

When will Ganga Expressway open?

According to the officials of the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the trial runs of the expressway will be completed in the first week of December. After final technical tests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it in the second week of January 2026. The trial run on the 129-kilometre-long Meerut-Badaun section has now been completed and will provide significant relief to travelers and the industry.

Supporting industrial development

The Ganga Highway passes through 12 districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raibareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. The highway is expected to give a significant impetus to industrial development in the region, with industrial corridors on both sides. The highway will become a comfortable and efficient means of transportation by allowing vehicles to travel at a speed of 120 km per hour without encountering any obstacles. The project involves acquisition of 7,453 hectares of land at a cost of 36,230 crore rupees, with plans to expand to Haridwar in the future.
