Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon eye $60b OpenAI investment

January 29, 2026 16:39 | News

According to The Information, Nvidia, Amazon and Microsoft are in talks to invest up to $60 billion in OpenAI.

Nvidia, an existing investor whose chips power OpenAI’s artificial intelligence models, is in talks to invest up to $30 billion, The Information reported, citing a person with knowledge of the situation.

Microsoft, a long-time supporter, is in talks to invest less than $10 billion, the report said. He added that Amazon, which will be a new investor, is in talks to invest over $10 billion, potentially even over $20 billion.

The report stated that OpenAI was close to receiving term sheets or investment commitments from these companies.

Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft and ‌OpenAI did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment outside normal business hours.

Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.

The Information said Amazon’s investment could be contingent on separate negotiations, including a possible expansion of OpenAI’s cloud server rental agreement with Amazon and a commercial agreement for OpenAI to sell its products, such as enterprise ChatGPT subscriptions, to Amazon.

This follows reports earlier this week that SoftBank Group was in talks to invest as much as an additional US$30 billion in OpenAI.

OpenAI is grappling with rising costs to train and run its AI models as ‍Alphabet’s rivalry with Google intensifies.
