Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei Says India Has Key Role To Play in AI Sphere

New Delhi: The biggest voices in the technology world are at the AI-India Impact summit. Technology leaders in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed India for hosting the summit and highlighted the key role it plays in this field.
In his speech, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei praised the energy and ambition on display and talked about the newly announced partnerships that Anthropic is making in India.
Amodei said: “The energy and ambition in this room and across India is incredible. I have been spending the last few days meeting with Indian builders and businesses, and the energy to build together is felt here like no other. This is the fourth AI Summit we have organised. The advancements in this technology over the last 2.5 years have been astounding.”
“As a demonstration of our commitment, just this week we opened an office in Bengaluru and hired Irina Ghose, who has spent three decades building businesses in India, as managing director of Anthropic India. We also announced this week partnerships with major Indian companies, including Infosys and others. Technologies pioneered in India have set a standard for the Global South,” he added.
Amodei also flagged both the positive and negative aspects of AI and said India has a central role in helping the world meet these challenges. “On the positive side, it has the potential to cure diseases that have been incurable for thousands of years, radically improve human health and lift billions of people, including the global south, out of poverty and create a better world for everyone. On the risks side, I am concerned about the autonomous behavior of AI models, their potential for abuse by individuals and governments, and their potential for economic displacement. India has an absolutely central role in these questions and challenges, both in terms of opportunities and risks.”
The AI-India Impact Summit brought together government policymakers, industry AI experts, academics, technology innovators and civil society from across the world in New Delhi to advance the global debate on AI.
The summit reflects the transformative potential of AI in line with the national vision of “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” (prosperity for all, happiness for all) and the global principle of Artificial Intelligence for Humanity.
This summit is part of an evolving international process that aims to strengthen global cooperation on the governance, security and societal impact of artificial intelligence.
