India’s bowlers were after the money right from the start. Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to field and the pacers wasted no time. South Africa’s top rankings have disintegrated; but after going over three times, they were suddenly 3 to 7. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana set the tone early by grabbing two wickets in the powerplay. Then the spinners took over. Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav (who was celebrating his birthday) chipped in with two wickets each and never let the pressure drop. Aiden Markram responded with a brave score of 61 from 46 balls but to be fair he was struggling on his own. South Africa managed only 117 runs in all 20 overs. Hardik Pandya also achieved a personal milestone by taking his 100th T20I wicket.
Chasing 118 felt pretty easy. Abhishek Sharma came out swinging, smashing 35 off just 18 balls and quickly advancing the chase. Along with Shubman Gill’s 28, India moved to 68 for 1 at the end of the Powerplay. Basically the game was played there.
There was a little wobble in the middle; Both Abhishek and Suryakumar fell cheaply, which slowed things down a bit. But Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube did not mess around. Dube finished the match in style by hitting 10 off 4 balls and India returned home with 7 wickets to spare.
