Zohran Mamdani, the socialist mayor of New York City, is facing backlash from conservatives on social media for his post condemning the US attack on Iran, which led to the killing of Iran’s religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
On Saturday, as the joint US and Israeli attack on Iran unfolded, Mamdani sharply criticized the Trump administration’s decision. Publish on X It has been viewed nearly 20 million times.
“Today’s military strikes against Iran by the United States and Israel mark a catastrophic escalation in the illegal war of aggression,” Mamdani wrote.
Mamdani said, “Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new battlefield. Americans do not want this. They do not want a new war for the sake of regime change.”

Mamdani said the Americans preferred to “get out of the economic crisis” before talking directly to the Iranians in New York.
“You are part of the fabric of this city; you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers and community leaders,” Mamdani said. he said. “You’ll be safe here.”

Shortly after Mamdani’s post, President Trump and Israeli officials announced that the military operation resulted in Khamenei’s death.
Khamenei’s compound and offices were reduced to rubble early Saturday following a targeted attack in downtown Tehran, Israeli leaders confirmed.
