New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is facing criticism after a video resurfaced claiming she was the victim of anti-Muslim discrimination in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The video shows Mamdani speaking to voters during her New York State Assembly campaign in February 2020. Mamdani describes a number of examples of allegations of discrimination against him and argues that there are “exceptions” to tolerance in America.
Mamdani alleges that the school teacher removed her and another student from class on September 11 and warned them that they might be bullied because of the attack.
In another example, he says he was stopped at the airport when he was 15 and returned to the United States with his family. He said security met with him in a private room and asked if he had been to a terrorist training camp.

“I was Indian in Uganda. I was Muslim in India, and then when we moved to New York, I was all of those things. There’s still something about New York that makes us believe that no matter where you come from or who you are, we too can be New Yorkers…” Mamdani says in the video.

“Yet there would be many moments in my childhood when I was reminded that this saying comes with exceptions,” he said.

Conservative activist Amy Mek was the first to share the video in 2020, once again drawing attention to Mamdani’s mayoral bid on Saturday.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Mamdani’s campaign for comment.
The video comes after Mamdani faced similar criticism for claiming that her aunt stopped taking the subway in New York after 9/11.
Mamdani said he and his family were subject to “secret suspicion” in the city.

Vice President J.D. Vance pushed back on this narrative in a post on X.
“According to Zohran, the real victim of 9/11 was his (allegedly) evil-looking aunt,” Vance said.
