NYE parties cancelled globally due to credible terror threat | World | News

Many cities around the world are canceling New Year’s parties due to credible fears of terrorist attacks on revelers at the beginning of 2026.
The mass purge of the party followed an FBI raid that allegedly foiled a New Year’s Eve terrorist plot in Los Angeles. The FBI claims extremists are planning attacks at five different locations in Los Angeles. Four people were arrested in the Mojave Desert east of Los Angeles in connection with the foiled attack. FBI agents say their raid on the extremist group caught them in the middle of a rehearsal of a so-called New Year’s plan.
FBI Director Kash Patel has since confirmed that a fifth person from the same alleged extremist group has been arrested. The man was detained in New Orleans for allegedly planning a related but separate attack on revelers celebrating the New Year.
At this time, Los Angeles and New Orleans officials have not announced plans to cancel New Year’s Eve gatherings, but several others have. Mirror USA.
Paris
According to local news source sortiraparis.com, the concert planned for New Year’s Eve in Paris was canceled due to security concerns of the Paris police.
Given that large crowds often flock to the Champs-Élysées show, authorities reportedly pressured the mayor to cancel the concert to minimize the risk of crushing and mayhem. But the fireworks show will still go on, which means not all the festivities have been cancelled.
Sydney
New Year’s Eve fireworks have been canceled following the tragic Bondi Beach attack earlier this month. The spectacular was expected to attract 15,000 revelers to Bondi Beach.
Waverley Council confirmed the cancellations, saying “Due to the current situation on the ground, Waverley Council has taken the decision to cancel New Year’s Eve events at Bondi Beach, including elrow XXL Bondi and Local’s Lawn,” according to Sky News.
The broadcaster reported that the event’s organizer, Fuzzy, also explained that the choice was made to maintain a focus on showing “compassion and care for the Jewish community in Sydney”.
At 11pm in Sydney’s Darling Harbour, the iconic Sydney Harbor Bridge will be illuminated in white and the city will observe a minute’s silence to remember the victims of the 14 December attack.
Tokyo
Tokyo authorities canceled the planned New Year’s Eve countdown at Shibuya Station out of fear that large gatherings could become targets of attacks and trigger deadly stampedes, just like in Paris, Japan Today reported.
Shibuya Mayor Ken Hasebe also expressed concerns about the potential consequences of drinking in public places, the release said.
