Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spoke over phone to the father of a woman from the state who was gang-raped in West Bengal’s Durgapur and assured him that he will get all support from the State government.
The woman, who hails from Jaleswar in Odisha’s Balasore district, was studying in a private medical college in West Bengal’s Paschim Bardhaman district. She was allegedly gang-raped by some men outside the campus on Friday evening, October 10, 2025.
Mr Majhi spoke to the woman’s father, who was in Durgapur on Saturday night.
A CMO statement quoted Mr Majhi as saying: “I am extremely saddened and heartbroken after learning about your daughter’s condition. I can feel the mental state of a father whose daughter was gang-raped. The state government is fully with you at this critical moment.”
The Chief Minister said that the State government is currently focusing on the speedy recovery of the medical student and his ability to lead a normal life.
Mr Majhi said he had urged the survivor’s father to his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee to ensure that the culprits get the strictest punishment.
Mr Majhi said a senior Odisha official was in touch with the West Bengal government and provided all necessary legal assistance.
He directed the Balasore district superintendent of police to contact Durgapur Police and provide necessary assistance.
Mr. Majhi assured the survivor’s father that he would provide any other assistance the family needed.
His father thanked the Prime Minister for his empathy and help.
Earlier on Saturday, Mr. Majhi, through a social media post, urged Ms. Banerjee to ensure the speedy arrest of the accused and their exemplary punishment.
