Under Keir Starmer’s watchful eye, 61 men were convicted and jailed for being members of grooming gangs. And now, as Prime Minister, he has launched a national investigation into such gangs. The essence of political “footbalism” was that these gangs were almost entirely composed of Muslim men, mostly from Mirpur in Pakistani Kashmir.

It is this factor that hinders the progress of this investigation from various political aspects.

There is no doubt that the grooming gangs in Rotherham, Bradford and perhaps eight other towns were predominantly of Mirpuri origin. However, there is insufficient data on the ethnicity of perpetrators of child sexual offenses across the UK.

However, the Musketeer and now spokesmen for the Reform Party – let’s say far-right nationalist and in some vote-getting ways “socialist” – have used the thwarted investigation as a political point scorer, again emphasizing the religion of those grooming the perpetrators. More shamefully, even the leadership of the Conservative Party stepped in to make the anti-Muslim point.

This should be a specific class culture, anti-Mirpuri, anti-immigrant, rather than a broadly anti-Muslim, or at worst (Gunslinger anyone?) anti-Islamic point. Nothing in Islam condones this type of crime and everything in its ethics condemns it.

Millions of British Muslims should not be exposed to the tar of the 61 people already prosecuted and jailed. But the right and far right in the UK, triggered and encouraged by the intervention of the racist loner Gunslinger, see political advantage in anti-Muslim stances and statements, making no mention of the fact that the leading lawyers prosecuting the 61 people convicted in many cases so far are themselves Muslims.

The gangs started when Mirpuri taxi drivers picked up defenseless girls and took them to men who would act as their boyfriends, protectors and partners, and then sell them to others in their gangs. This really shows that these men think of vulnerable, even poor, young white women as people who are not in the same category as them and, as a result, they can exploit at will.

Probably the Mirpuri criminals of these gangs respect their own mothers, sisters and daughters. So where does this criminal discrimination come from?
