Chief Inspector Ian Partington, of GMP’s Oldham area, said: “This was a shocking incident of violence and our thoughts remain with the victim at this incredibly difficult time.

“I would like to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are taken extremely seriously and our officers are now exhausting all avenues of investigation to find the suspect.

“We understand this is a worrying incident and we have extra patrols in the area following this incident. “I would urge anyone with concerns to please speak to our officers who are there to provide support.

“The incident remains open and our officers have worked throughout the night to carry out the investigation. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or had dashcam, CCTV or a mobile phone in the area at the time to please let us know.”
