Gopichand P. Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Group and one of the most influential figures in the global business world, passed away in a London hospital at the age of 85, according to a report. PTI news report. It was stated that Gopichand P. Hinduja, fondly known as ‘GP’ in business circles, had been unwell for the last few weeks and died in a hospital in London.
Who was Gopichand P. Hinduja?
Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja’s second son, Gopichand, was born in 1940. Parmanand Hinduja, from India’s Sindh region, founded the family business in 1914.
Gopichand Hinduja was one of the four Hinduja brothers who founded and expanded the family’s business empire across continents. The eldest, Srichand Hinduja, died in 2023, while the two surviving brothers, Prakash and Ashok Hinduja, continue to run the group’s vast operations.
Gopichand Hinduja graduated from Bombay’s Jai Hind College in 1959. He also received honorary doctorates from the University of Westminster and the American International University Richmond in London for his contributions to global industry and philanthropy.
Belonging to the second generation of the Hinduja family, Gopichand Hinduja assumed the role of Chairman of the Hinduja Group following the death of his elder brother Srihand in May 2023.
Gopichand Hinduja is survived by his wife Sunita; sons Sanjay and Dheeraj; and daughter Rita.

British MP Rami Ranger stated that the Indian-origin businessman was “one of the most kind, humble and loyal friends” and added that his death “marks the end of an era”.
“Dear friends, with a heavy heart, I share with you the tragic loss of our dear friend, Mr. GP Hinduja, who left for his heavenly abode. He was one of the most kind, humble and loyal friends. His passing marks the end of an era as he was a truly well-intentioned person and a guiding force of the society,” Ranger said in a statement.
“I had the privilege of knowing him for many years; his qualities were unparalleled – a tremendous sense of humour, commitment to society and country, India – and he always supported good causes. He leaves behind a huge void that will be difficult to fill. May he rest in peace in heaven. Om Shanti,” the statement said.

Violent family feud between billionaire Hinduja brothers
The billionaire Hinduja family has agreed to a worldwide ceasefire in 2022 after a protracted legal battle over the future of its global business empire. The decision came after a long-running dispute regarding the health and affairs of Gopichand’s elder brother Srihand P. Hinduja, who was suffering from dementia at the time.
The Court of Appeal in London has largely rejected a challenge to restrictions on reporting the dispute being debated in a specialist court in a case focusing on the health of 86-year-old patriarch Srichand Hinduja.
Srichand’s younger brother Gopichand had challenged in the Court of Protection the legitimacy of the durable power of attorney granted to Srihand’s wife Madhu and later daughters Vinoo and Shanu, which made decisions on financial or social matters for people who were unable to do so.
“Hinduja family is a matter of health and welfare of SP [Srichand] “This incident has already been resolved amicably between all parties, and today’s decision is solely about whether these matters will remain confidential,” a spokesperson for the Hinduja family said in an emailed statement.
London’s Court of Appeal confirmed that all ongoing proceedings, including those in the UK, Switzerland and Jersey, had been withdrawn after the family agreed to end “all existing disputes between them in all jurisdictions”.
