One royal role Prince Andrew still has as he’s stripped of last titles | Royal | News

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday evening that King Charles’ younger brother Prince Andrew had begun taking steps to remove his last remaining royal titles and styles. As a result, he will be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and will be formally stripped of his titles as Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh.

At the same time, Queen Elizabeth II. She will also officially lose the previously defunct title of Royal Highness when Elizabeth strips her second son of all military and charitable patronages in 2022. Among the honors he lost was the role of Knight of the Order of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Victorian Order.

However, there is a prestigious role that he still has, even though he is not allowed to use it.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that although he will never be called upon to act on behalf of King Charles, Andrew remains in his role as Counselor of State as there are no changes to the guidance on who can succeed the monarch.

Traditionally, this role is held by the monarch’s spouse and the first four royals over the age of 21 in the Order of Succession, meaning they can step in in the event of an emergency and retain the monarch’s powers.

However, early in his reign the King took steps to ensure that only certain members of his family could move. In 2022, the monarch wrote to the House of Lords, asking them to approve his request that the Princess Crown and the Duke of Edinburgh be added to the list of people who can stand in for the monarch if he is abroad, ill or otherwise incapacitated.

As a result, the current State Counselors are Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Princess Beatrice.

While it was confirmed on 17 October that Andrew would no longer use the title of Duke of York publicly, the King went one step further.

Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday evening that the King had begun taking steps to officially remove his younger brother’s last remaining titles and styles.

The Palace confirmed in a statement: “These condemnations are deemed necessary despite his continued denial of the allegations against him.

“Her Majesty wishes to make it clear that her thoughts and utmost sympathies remain with the victims and survivors of all forms of abuse.”
