One-year-old girl dies after being hit by ute

A young child has tragically died after being struck by a car in NSW’s Hunter Region on Tuesday evening.

The one-year-old girl was hit by a Toyota utility vehicle and police were called to a home in Lloyd George Grove, Tanilba Bay, Port Stephens, at about 5.40pm.

The little boy was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition where he later died.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, was reported to have sustained no injuries and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
