‘Targeted shooting’ in Illinois kills 5 family members, wounds 2 others

Seven family members were shot, five fatally, in what authorities described as a “targeted mass shooting” in Illinois on Sunday.

Illinois State Police announced at a news conference that two teenage suspects, both 16, were taken into custody in connection with the shootings.

No criminal complaint has been filed against the suspects yet.

Police are in East St. Louis, including 39th and Summit, the Gompers public housing project and Jones Park. He said there were shootings at multiple locations in St. Louis, Illinois.

In the incident, 5 people lost their lives and 2 people were hospitalized with serious injuries.

“I just want to say that these alleged acts of horrific violence that have taken so many lives in this community are terrible, bad, but they will not bring this city down,” police said.

Authorities also described the incident as a “horrible, horrific act of violence.”
