Operation Hawkeye: US Strikes ISIS Targets in Syria | World News

US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces, along with their partners, launched large-scale airstrikes on multiple ISIS targets across Syria on Saturday as part of Operation ‘Assault on the Castle’, which was launched on December 9, 2025 last year.
According to a post on CENTCOM’s X site, the operation took place around 12:30 Eastern Time. “Today’s strikes targeted ISIS across Syria as part of our ongoing commitment to root out Islamic terrorism against our warriors, prevent future attacks, and protect American and partner forces in the region,” the post also stated.

The attacks, launched on December 19, 2025, under the orders of US President Donald Trump, were in retaliation for ISIS’s attack on US and Syrian forces in Palmyra on December 13. Two American soldiers and a US civilian translator lost their lives in the attack carried out by an ISIS militant.
“Our message remains strong: If you harm our warriors, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice,” CENTCOM’s post on channel X said.
According to CNN, the martyred soldiers were identified as Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres Tovar, 25, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard, 29, of Marshalltown, Iowa; Both Iowa National Guard members were deployed earlier this year as part of Operation ‘Inherent Resolve,’ which sent nearly 1,800 troops to fight ISIS in the Middle East.
CNN also cited a US official who told CNN that more than 90 precision munitions were fired during Saturday’s operation, using more than two dozen aircraft to hit more than 35 targets.
