Opposition Demands Statement from Government

New Delhi: The opposition demanded in the Lok Sabha on Monday that the government should inform the country about what it is doing in the wake of disruptions in IndiGo flights and inconvenience faced by the public at various airports across the country. Speaker Om Birla said Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu will make a detailed statement on the issue in the Lower House on Monday or Tuesday.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha immediately after the Question Hour, Congress’ Lok Sabha deputy speaker Gaurav Gogoi said, “Through you (Speaker), we request the government that the Ministry of Civil Aviation tell the country through this House that for days now, people (are facing problems) at all airports across the country, dialysis patients, people having weddings at their homes, people trying to reach their elderly, there is chaos at the airports.”
“We were told that even people wearing Hawaiian hats will travel by plane, but prices have gone up to Rs 20,000, coffee at airports is up to Rs 250 and flights are being delayed. So the government needs to tell us what it is doing,” he said.
The opposition is attacking the government over disruptions in IndiGo flights and blaming it for the “unprecedented crisis”.
The Congress had earlier claimed that the ongoing IndiGo chaos was not an accident but a direct result of the BJP government’s “relentless drive to create a duopoly in the industry”.
More than 250 IndiGo flights were canceled from Delhi and Bengaluru airports on Monday as disruptions in the crisis-hit airline’s flight operations entered the seventh day, sources said.
