Original sources vital for history, says expert

Historian and former Professor of History, University of Hyderabad, Aloka Parasher-Sen on Saturday stressed the importance of going back to original sources and cautioned against interpretations based solely on previous readings.
At a lecture on “Ancient Indian History – Recent Research and Interpretations” organized by the Department of History, Andhra Loyola College, he spoke about the value of multiple perspectives, the selective nature of memory and history, and how narratives of the past emerge through oral traditions, retrieved evidence, and later reconstructions.
He emphasized how nationalist and imperialist perspectives shape historical interpretations in different ways and called for openness to new readings, underlining that history is a dynamic and developing discipline.
The program was attended by University Correspondent Fr. Rex Angelo, Principal Fr. Melchior, Deputy Principal Fr. Kiran, Dean Baby Rani, B. Kalyani, student coordinator Nomitha Reddy and faculty and students of the Department of History participated.
