Search for 12-year-old leads police to other missing girls in Rockland County

A criminal investigation is ongoing after four children reported missing Sunday were found safe in Spring Valley.

The investigation started with the search for a 12-year-old girl.

His parents received a call from an unfamiliar number, with a person on the other line demanding a ransom of $1,000 and claiming the child as his own.

Local officers received assistance from the FBI task force.

That led investigators to a home on Johnson Street in Spring Valley, where they found the girl and three other missing girls from Clarkstown.

They were all said to be safe.

Police said none of them were being held against their will and they all knew each other.

A woman at the home Monday would not comment on what happened but acknowledged there had been some sort of disturbance.

Spring Valley police did not make any arrests and returned the other three girls to their police colleagues in Clarkstown, who reunited the girls with their families.

The focus of the investigation now focuses on the ransom call and who made the threat serious enough to warrant the FBI’s resources.
