Over 15,000 police personnel to be deployed for Maha Deepam day in Tiruvannamalai

More than 15,000 police personnel will be assigned as part of the security measures, including those on duty in 24 watchtowers. Maha Deepam The day (3 December) as part of the Karthigai Deepam festival held at the Arunachaleswarar temple in Tiruvannamalai town from 24 November to 7 December.

Most vehicles, including two-wheelers and cars, will not be allowed to enter the city, especially during this period. Maha Deepam The Transport Department will run 180 shuttle services every day between the temporary bus terminus and Girivalam road and Arunachaleswarar temple, about four kilometers away, to avoid traffic congestion. Each suburb will be charged Rs 10 for shuttle services.

Vehicles will be allowed to park in car parks with a capacity of 130 vehicles far from the district. The parking area has a capacity of 19,815 vehicles. The Health Department will set up 85 mobile health desks, mostly at Girivalam road and bus terminals, during the festival. Approximately 45 ambulances, including five bicycle ambulances, will be roped. Adequate water taps (136 points), toilets (836 points), 483 toilets on Girivalam road and 1,258 street lights (698 lights on Girivalam road alone) will be installed for the festival. Approximately 3,600 cleaners will be on duty in the town to clean garbage throughout the festival.

The two-week-long festival includes hoisting of the holy flag at the Arunachaleswarar temple on November 24. The sacred flag will be hoisted on a golden pole around the temple. Every day the gods will be taken in processions in different chariots and driven into the Mada Streets around the temple. The most striking part of the celebrations was the lighting.
