Over 52,000 Indians Return from Gulf Amid Tensions; MEA Sets Up Control Room

New Delhi: The Indian government is constantly monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and the Gulf region, especially with regard to the welfare of Indian citizens stranded there during transit or short-term visits, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday.
All Indian citizens in the region have been advised to follow the guidelines of local authorities as well as advisories issued by the Indian Embassy or Consulate in their respective regions. MEA said embassies and consulates in these countries have provided detailed advice and set up helplines to help address concerns due to the ongoing situation. MEA has also set up a dedicated Special Control Room to monitor and respond to queries of those affected and their families.
The MEA also said that following the partial opening of airspace across the region in the last few days, Indian and foreign airlines are operating commercial flights, including non-scheduled flights, to facilitate the return of Indian passengers on transit or short-term visits in these countries. It was stated that so far more than 52,000 Indians have traveled safely to India from the Gulf region between March 1-7. More than 32,000 of these traveled on Indian carriers and more flights are planned in the coming days.
MEA said that in countries where commercial flight operations are not possible, Indian citizens can contact the relevant embassy/consulate regarding the nearest commercial flight options.
“The safety and welfare of Indian citizens abroad is a top priority for the government, which is in touch with governments in the region to assist all those in need of assistance,” the MEA said in a statement. he said.
