Mother dies saving daughter in Venezuela earthquakes

According to football player Héctor Bello and local media, a Venezuelan mother died while saving her daughter during the earthquakes that hit the country.

Bello wrote on Instagram that his “precious love,” whom Venezuelan news outlets called his wife Andrea, saved the lives of their young children during two strong earthquakes.

“I will tell her how you saved her, how you gave your life for my love, our daughter, how you were a brave woman who never abandoned her, even when she breathed her last,” Bello wrote in his post.

Rescue teams continue to search under the rubble for survivors after a double earthquake near the capital Caracas killed at least 920 people and injured more than 3,000.

In a series of posts, Bello said he had traveled to Caracas, where his daughter was in the hospital.

He shared a post overnight on Friday: “My daughter and her aunt are in good condition, they will not be discharged today, they will stay in the hospital. Thank you very much for supporting me in this great pain.”

“How do I explain to your daughter that you lost your life to save hers and I wasn’t there to do anything? How do I explain this? Now give me strength,” Bello wrote in a separate Instagram story.

Local Venezuelan football player press and promotion organization Cumaná de Campeones also shared a post about his death.

“We regret to inform you that football player Héctor Bello’s partner “Kike”, originally from Cumana, was found dead under the rubble following the earthquake in the country.”

“However, their daughter survived the collapse of the building where the entire family lived.”

US Spanish-language news outlet Univision also reported that Bello’s wife had died.
