Left parties condemn U.S. “aggression” in Venezuela

Left parties condemned the US attacks on Venezuela and the capture of the country’s President Nicolás Maduro on Saturday, January 3, 2026; The Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) issued statements condemning the US actions.
CPI(M) general secretary MA Baby condemned the US action and called it a “naked act of aggression”. Referring to the failed coup attempt against the then President Hugo Chavez in 2002, Mr. Baby described this attempt as a failed US-backed attempt and said that these coups would also result in the same fate.

“This is a blind violation of international law,” Mr Baby said, describing India’s silence on the attacks as “suspicious”.
G. Devarajan, secretary general of the All India Forward Bloc, “unequivocally” condemned the attacks and said the US “has no moral, legal or political authority to attack any sovereign country under any pretext”, adding that the AIFB had demanded “immediate intervention from the United Nations to condemn US aggression, halt all military actions and ensure the safety and life of the President of Venezuela”.

Raja, general secretary of the Communist Party of India, called the attacks a “blatant and criminal military attack” on the part of the United States and said they were “a gross violation of the UN Charter, international law and the universally accepted principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference.” In a post on
Mr. Raja declared that the CPI “stands in firm solidarity with the Government and people of Venezuela in their just struggle to defend national sovereignty and the right to choose their own path of development.”
