Government urges households to check if they can save £150 on energy bills
The government called on the households to check that they were entitled to automatically discounts on energy bills this year as an annual plan was expanded.
The hot home discount provides 150 £ cutting to domestic energy bills for qualified buyers. One -time discount is automatically applied to an energy invoice between October and March.
After the Energy and Net Zero Department (Desnz) announced the expansion of the plan, about six million people will receive a payment this winter this winter.
This brings new rules, which means that those who pay invoices should only be tested by a suitable tool, before proved that they live in a house with high energy costs.
However, the appropriation should be named on the energy invoice. Desnz reminded the households.
Energy suppliers that automatically apply the discount will rely on customers’ records as of 24 August to check the suitability.

After this date, appropriate customers may still request a discount, but a letter will have to wait for the year to come to the future. This may be late until January 2026.
Energy Consumer Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh said: “Earlier this year, we took a decisive action to expand the hot home discount and we gave certainty and peace to the family working more before winter.
“Now I want to make sure that the household is as suitable as possible from the energy bills that are very suitable as possible, and it puts more money in his pockets as a part of our change plan.
“If you know someone who might be appropriate – please start spreading the word to the family and friends, encourage them to check that they are called on the energy bill.”
In order to be appropriate for payment in England and Wales, he must receive the guaranteed loan or the following:
- Housing advantage
- Employment and Support allowance related to income (ESA)
- Income -based Jobereker’s allowance (JSA)
- Income support
- Universal loan
The expansion of the hot home discount comes after the Energy Regulator ofly, the UK’s energy bills have been warned that despite a recent deduction on the price limit.
