Bapatla District Collector bans Black Burley tobacco cultivation for this year

In a significant movement, the regional collector J. Venkata Murali with a Bapat refers to the serious financial losses that farmers were exposed to in the last seasons and brought a full prohibition to the growing black burley tobacco in the region for the current agricultural year.

The Minister warned that the violation of the ban, including nursery cultivation, will invite strict actions, including the destruction of crops. “Even black Burley tobacco nursery is strictly forbidden,” he said, calling farmers to switch to more profitable alternatives.
The collector, who gave confidence to farmers, said that the government will stand with them and support the transition to sustainable products. However, farmers who harvest Black Burley will be allowed to sell their products to special buyers. He also warned the breeders against the bringing of tobacco with moisture content exceeding 20% to supply centers and advised them to protect the crop from rain damage. Mr. Murali confirmed the commitment of the management’s commitment to the interests of farmers and provided the supply of every leaf that was legally grown this season.
