Girl, 2, died on Christmas day after falling into pond after parents ‘couldn’t find her’ | UK | News

The investigation stated that a two-year-old girl tragically died by falling into a pond in the garden on Christmas Day. Isobel Abigail Maxwell was found in the water at her home in Doncaster as her family tried to resuscitate her before paramedics arrived.
However, despite emergency interventions, he could not be saved. A hearing at Doncaster Coroner’s Court was opened and adjourned by senior coroner Nicola Mundy on Monday. Coroner Scarlett Harrison told the court the incident was reported to South Yorkshire Police by the ambulance service at around 4.45pm on December 25 and Isobel was confirmed dead an hour later.
Miss Harrison said: “Police were informed that Isobel had unfortunately fallen into the lake at the family home. The family immediately began CPR, calling 999, CPR continuing for 25 minutes before Isobel flashed the blue light to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.”
Ms Mundy adjourned the case until September 14, when a full investigation will take place. Following her death, Isobel’s mother Tamara Wallace thanked the hundreds of people who contributed to an online fundraiser to create a memorial fairy garden.
Ms Wallace wrote on Facebook: “Anyone who knows Isobel and us knows how talented she is and that she has lived more in her two years than some children do in their entire lives.
“The generosity has been extraordinary, we are standing so close to each other and being overwhelmed with love, which is absolutely what we need.
“We also want people to remember Isobel for that magical girl, for the adventure and fire in her soul and the light she brought, not for her sad death.”
Isobel’s aunt, Abigail Maxwell, set up a GoFundMe page to remember the “tragic accident” and “living nightmare” that occurred at a family gathering on Christmas Day.
Ms Maxwell said Isobel was playing with her daughter at home when she fell into the pond, which had a temporary fence around it, and disappeared “for a moment”.
He said: “We couldn’t find him for a moment and at that moment he went into the garden and fell into the pond. As you can imagine, losing a baby is the worst thing that can happen to a parent. He was so happy, he was so loved and they were the best parents who gave him the best life.”
