Woman arrested after her 84-year-old mother found dead in Sydney aged care home | Australia news

It was claimed that an 84-year-old woman, who was found dead in a nursing home, was given an unknown substance by her daughter.

Emergency services were called to Our Lady of Consolation aged care home at Rooty Hill in Sydney’s west at around 11.35pm on Thursday.

Police teams found the body of an 84-year-old woman in the building.

Police said a 53-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and taken to Mount Druitt hospital for medical evaluation.

The 53-year-old woman is the daughter of the 84-year-old woman.

Supt Darrin Batchelor said his daughter was distressed when police arrived at the scene.

“At this stage, we believe the allegation that the 53-year-old woman administered substances to the elderly woman,” he told reporters on Friday.

“At this time we don’t know exactly what this substance was and whether it contributed to his death last night.”

He stated that his daughter had no criminal history or medical training and was obedient to officers.

“Right now it’s really too early to determine what the motivation is, whether it’s an assisted death scenario, we really don’t know,” Batchelor said.

The daughter was then transported to the local police station and detained there.

Batchelor said a nine-year-old child was also present overnight but is now in the care of his family.

A crime scene has been established and exhibits are being collected by the forensic team.

While the investigation continues, toxicology and autopsy reports are being prepared.
