Panthers blitzing Eels early in Battle of the West
The Eels get their first attacking chance after Dylan Edwards is ruled to have kicked the ball on a possession play, but the raid ends in failure as Kitione Kautoga lofts a pass about 10 meters beyond the Panthers’ line.
Now came another mistake from Liam Martin, immediately followed by another six for a ball infringement – Penrith made most of these early in the tackle count so it doesn’t hurt them too much – allowing the Eels to break into their opponents’ half. And they took another set when Penrith were penalized after dragging Isaiah Iongi to the byline after a challenge was adjudged complete.
The Eels restart two more sets – but the second is called as Mitch Moses substitutes a ruckman for Josh Addo-Carr on the left. The experienced winger gets to the ball first but can’t bring it down cleanly, Brian To’o makes an excellent tackle on goal, so the Eels are awarded an offside penalty rather than a restart of the set.
Panthers 18, Eels 0 after 21 minutes
