Parents arrested after 4-year old twin boys ‘shot themselves’ | World | News

The parents of 4-year-old twins who were thought to have grabbed an unsafe gun and shot themselves have been arrested and face charges after the children fought for their lives. Keishara Goodrum, 39, was arrested on two charges of child neglect inflicting great bodily harm, and Maurice Bright, 40, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after the incident at the family’s home in Florida.

To talk Fox NewsFollowing the gunshots, the two children were taken to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital for treatment, where their condition was thought to be critical but stable, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said. Officers first became aware of the incident when they were called by AdventHealth East Orlando hospital, which had begun treating four-year-old boys for gunshot wounds.

The parents quickly took their children to the hospital, telling the police that they did not see the incident, but both ran into the room when they heard a loud explosion.

Goodrum, the children’s mother, claimed that she was preparing breakfast for the twins and her three other children when they heard the gunshots, while Bright was cooking food on the grill outside.

Goodrum told officers he may have left the gun unsecured on the couch because he forgot to lock it after drinking the night before, according to an arrest affidavit.
