Parkway Central High mourns passing of student

CHESTERFIELD, MO. – Parkway Central High School mourns the passing of one of its students.

Parkway Central High School principal Dr. Tim McCarthy released the announcement Tuesday, informing the community that 18-year-old Central High School Senior Olivia Bumbac was in a car accident Monday night and died from her injuries.

McCarthy said another student was also injured in the accident and taken to the hospital.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the Bumbac family as they mourn the loss of their daughter and sister. Another student was involved in an accident and is currently hospitalized; we are with her in spirit as she recovers,” McCarthy said.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) report, the fatal crash occurred Sunday, Feb. 15, on westbound I-64 in a two-vehicle crash in which Bumbac was a passenger.

“A tragedy like this will impact so many people in our community, especially Olivia’s friends, classmates and teachers, as well as others who did not know her but were affected by her death,” McCarthy said.

The principal said the school offered mental health resources to students, staff and families following Bumbac’s death.

Students gathered for a memorial service for the 18-year-old on Tuesday night.

“We extend our sincerest condolences to the Bumbac family, who mourn the loss of their daughter and sister,” McCarthy said.
