Suspension of 8 Lok Sabha MPs canceled; Speaker Birla said banners and posters will no longer be displayed
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, annulled with immediate effect the suspension of eight opposition members who were barred from the House on February 3 for their “unruly” conduct; Speaker Om Birla emphasized that banners, posters, photographs or artificial intelligence-generated images should not be displayed inside the House or in the Parliament complex.
Congress member K. Suresh said that what happened in the Assembly was regrettable and his party was ready to cooperate for the smooth functioning of the Assembly and requested the Assembly to consider the removal of eight opposition members.
After the presentation of several opposition members, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that a “Laxman Rekha” should be drawn for the smooth functioning of the House and both the treasury and opposition benches also agreed to this.
Speaker Birla said that it is necessary to ensure that no banners, posters, photographs or AI-generated images are displayed in the House or within the Parliament complex.
Mr. Birla said everyone agreed that proceedings in the Parliament of the world’s largest democracy should be smooth and everyone should cooperate.
Mr. Rijiju then moved a motion to lift the suspension of seven Congress MPs and one CPI-M member and this motion was passed by voice vote.
