Panic buying led to ‘no stock’ boards; no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG in Telangana: Civil Supplies dept

Telangana Civil Supplies Department on Tuesday said categorically that there is ‘absolutely’ no shortage of petrol, diesel or domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) anywhere in the state.

Responding to reports of fuel shortage at some outlets in Hyderabad, the department said people’s panic buying has led to long queues and ‘out of stock’ boards at some outlets. Additionally, administrative changes to advance payment models by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have led to logistical adjustments for some local dealers.

Supply chain fully operational

Artificial famine occurs when people rush to fill fuel tanks to full capacity, according to a communication from the ministry, which stated that the supply chain from oil refineries to local depots is fully operational and self-sufficient stocks are available to meet daily daily needs in all regions.

Earlier in the day, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar also said that there was no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG cylinders across the city and stocks were normal. The Hyderabad police is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant departments to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel and cooking gas, the official added.

Fuel outlets are controlled

The Central and State government is monitoring fuel outflows in coordination with the Police department and OMCs. The Civil Supplies department has warned of strict action against people hoarding fuel, black-marketing or illegally diverting domestic LPG cylinders for commercial use.

The government has appealed to people to avoid panic buying, rely only on official communications and not forward unverified rumors on social media platforms.
