Rob Reiner’s son Nick appears in court in chains | US | News

Nick Reiner appeared in court in chains since being charged with murder in connection with the deaths of the 32-year-old’s parents, Michele and Rob Reiner. Court sketches seen in the Express depict Nick with his hands and feet bound in shackles, wearing a suicide prevention apron over his bare chest.

The judge banned video recording of Nick in the Los Angeles courtroom. Nick remained largely silent throughout the proceedings, responding only, “Yes, your honor,” when the judge asked if he understood his right to a speedy trial. Since the next hearing date was scheduled for January 7, he chose not to enter a defense at this stage.

Rob and Michele’s bodies were found in their home by their daughter Romy, who went to check on them after failing to answer the door for a pre-arranged massage reservation. Emergency services were contacted immediately and both people were pronounced dead at the facility.

Both victims exhibited rigor mortis, the post-mortem hardening of muscles. Considering that rigor mortis typically develops between two and six hours after death, this suggests that the couple has been dead for a long time.

It was claimed that the throats of the people injured with a knife were cut.

Nick has previously spoken openly about his struggle with addiction. During his youth between the ages of 15 and 19, he was treated in rehabilitation centers 18 times.

In 2016, Nick teamed up with his father to film the movie Being Charlie; Nick wrote the script and Rob handled directing duties. The semi-autobiographical film centers around the protagonist, Charlie (played by Nick Robinson), who struggles with addiction and homelessness.

It also explores the relationship between Charlie and his father (played by Cary Elwes), potentially mirroring Nick and Rob’s own dynamic during this difficult time.

Both Nick and Rob expressed that collaborating on the film was a therapeutic process. Rob and Michele openly admitted to their missteps while Nick was in rehab.

Rob admitted in an LA Times interview: “We didn’t listen when Nick told us it wasn’t working for him. We were desperate and we listened to people when we should have listened to our son because they had diplomas on their walls.”

Michele chimed in and said: “We were so impressed by these people. They would tell us that he was a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.”

In court, Nick is represented by attorney Alan Jackson, known for his involvement in high-profile cases. Previous clients include Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.

Most recently, he defended Karen Read, who was accused of murdering her boyfriend in 2022 and was later acquitted.
