The New England Patriots continue to advance with a 27-14 win over their AFC East rival, the New York Jets, on “Thursday Night Football.”

New England extended its long winning streak to eight games and improved to 9-2 on the season. Meanwhile, the Jets’ short winning streak after starting the season 0-7 has ended.

Going into this game, the Patriots were expected to dominate the Jets. Even though the scoreboard didn’t say so at the end, their rookie running back certainly provided the fireworks.

TreVeyon Henderson, who broke out with 147 yards and two long touchdown runs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, added three more touchdowns to his first-year stat line with this win.

He was the only Patriots player to find the end zone, which began the team’s 13-play, 69-yard drive and ended with the entire offensive line pushing him over the goal line to tie the game at seven points apiece.

On the Patriots’ next drive, Henderson ran from seven yards out to give the Patriots a 14-7 halftime lead.

PATRIOTS DRAW PRAISE FOR STORMING UNIFORM DEBUT AGAINST JETS

New England began to pull away after MVP-candidate quarterback Drake Maye, who was also coming off a great performance, put together chunk completions to set up an eventual touchdown pass to Henderson, who found himself wide open in the end zone.

Henderson finished the game with 62 yards on 19 carries while making five catches for 31 yards.

Meanwhile, Justin Fields and the Jets’ offense struggled in yet another game despite a stellar opening 14-play drive that ended with the quarterback striking out on his own.

Fields was coming off a tough game against the Cleveland Browns, but the Jets were able to win thanks to two special teams scores. He threw for only 54 yards with a 60.4 quarterback rating.

Fields went 15-of-26 for 116 yards in this game and scored on a foul play by John Metchie III to make the score 21-14 in the third quarter. But there were more negative than positive moments for the Jets; Including a turnover on a low snap in the fourth quarter as the Jets scored just one touchdown.

The Patriots were able to close out the fourth quarter and give the home fans what they were hoping for in Mike Vrabel’s first year as head coach: a winning season.

There’s still more work to be done, but nine wins put the Patriots above .500.
