‘Peace-loving’ Taiwan doesn’t seek conflict with China

Hsiao Bi-Khim said Taiwan did not want conflict with China and would not provoke it to conflict and Beijing’s “aggressive” military stance was inefficient.

China sees Democratic Taiwan as a part of his own territory and calls President Lai Ching-Te “separatist.”

The Taiwan government objected to China’s claim.

Speaking to the Taiwan Foreign Reporters Club in Taipei, Hsiao said that China’s pressure on Taiwan has climbed for the last few years, but the people of the island love peace.

Lai’s Taipei and Beijing repeated the proposal of negotiations on Friday, “We are not looking for conflict; we will not provoke the conflict,” he said.

For decades, Hsiao said that Taiwan has contributed to the growth and prosperity of China only under a peaceful and stable environment.

“The aggressive military stance is inefficient and deprives people on both sides of the Taiwan Bosphorus to maintain the agenda of growth and prosperity.” He said.

“Defending the status quo (with China) is our choice, because not because it is easy, but because it is responsible and consistent for the interests of our region.”
