There’s something incredibly comforting about eating hot food with a spoon at the end of a hard day. As the cooler weather approaches, this dessert is at the top of my feel-good list: The pears resting under the spiced dough bake, thanks to a silent culinary alchemy, turning the top into a soft sponge and the bottom into a glossy caramel sauce.

It is simple but also simply elegant; It’s just as good served at the dinner table or on the couch on a Saturday night.
