Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan on Monday, March 2, 2026, expressed confidence that despite uncertainties, the Congress will continue in the alliance led by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the partners will jointly contest the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters at DMK headquarters Anna Arivalayam in Chennai after holding seat-sharing talks with the ruling party, Mr. Thirumavalavan said he could not comment on the Congress party’s demand for additional seats.

“Though we are part of the same alliance, DMK is holding separate talks with its allies and each party has put forward its own demands. I cannot comment on the other party’s stand. They (Congress) are making their demands on the grounds that they are a political force at the national level,” he said.
VCK’s demands
Mr. Thirumavalavan said he was seeking seats commensurate with his party’s strength and contribution to the alliance. “The 2026 Assembly election is no ordinary poll. We are determined to prevent right-wing forces from gaining a foothold in Tamil Nadu and ensure a comprehensive victory for the DMK-led secular alliance. We express our views from the perspective that VCK is an integral part of the alliance,” he said.

He also made it clear that his party was not interested in negotiating with the DMK. “We held talks with the understanding that we need to ensure the victory of the DMK alliance as the victory of this alliance will be a victory for social justice and Tamil Nadu. The DMK seat-sharing committee has listened to our views and will get back to us after discussing the issue with party president and Chief Minister MK Stalin,” he added.
VCK also sought three seats in Puducherry – one general constituency and two reserved constituencies but did not field any claim for Rajya Sabha seat.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign against the DMK government will not cut ice with the people of Tamil Nadu.
