UK weather: Snow and ice warnings issued after relentless rain and flooding

After brutally wet and dreary conditions, winter weather is predicted to return to parts of the UK, with many people facing snow and ice.
The change in conditions will be accompanied by arctic air, with temperatures dropping to six degrees below average.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice across Scotland and northern England from 16:00 GMT on Thursday until 12:00 GMT on Friday.
Rain will first fall as snow from higher elevations, then reach lower levels by Thursday night.
Settled snow will be seen mostly above 200 m and up to 10 cm possible.
Rain and snow are expected to clear in the south by the early hours of Friday, but temperatures will quickly drop to 3 to 6 degrees below average.
This will lead to icing on untreated surfaces and hazardous road conditions in some places.
