Pentagon names four of six US soldiers killed in Iranian strike on Kuwait base | US military
The U.S. Department of Defense on Tuesday identified four of the six American soldiers killed in a drone strike on Sunday. US base in Kuwait. Donald Trump said “there will probably be more soldiers killed” before it’s over.
The soldiers were identified as Capt. Cody Khork, 35; Sergeant Nicole Amor, 39; Sergeant Declan Coady, 20; and Sergeant Noah Tietjens, 42.
The US Army Reserve said it would investigate the incident.
In a video statement on Sunday, Trump said the soldiers killed “true American patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation even as they pursued the righteous mission for which they gave their lives.”
“We pray for the full recovery of the injured and send our endless love and gratitude to the families of the martyrs,” he said. “And unfortunately, there will probably be more before it’s over. “That’s the way it is, there will probably be more, but we will do everything possible in cases where that won’t be the case.”
Since Saturday, US and Israeli forces have carried out large-scale attacks across Iran, including hitting the compound of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on Saturday. Iran responded with retaliatory strikes, launching missiles targeting Israel and US military facilities in the region, including Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the emergency service of the Iranian Red Crescent, at least 787 people have died in Iran since Saturday. In Israel, officials said at least 10 people were killed.
The U.S. State Department on Tuesday announced a series of charter flights for Americans looking to get out of countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
In a statementThe government has helped more than 9,000 Americans leave the Middle East and has received requests for assistance from another 3,000 citizens who want to return to the United States, a department spokesman said.
“Commercial aviation options remain available in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman and Egypt, and the department is actively helping American citizens book these tickets.
“For persons in countries where commercial aviation is not available, the department is facilitating travel to third countries as conditions permit. This includes increasing ground transportation options for American citizens wishing to leave Israel,” the statement said.
