Pentagon Prepares Land Invasion Strategy for Iran: Report

Washington, DC: The Pentagon has developed comprehensive strategies for the potential deployment of US ground troops to Iran, sources familiar with the matter told CBS News.

As US President Donald Trump considers further steps in the ongoing conflict involving the US and Israel, senior military commanders have reportedly made specific requests to ensure preparedness. However, Trump has not yet defined the conditions under which he would allow the use of ground forces.

The discussions are being kept confidential, with officials speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the planning.

Asked about the deployment of ground troops at a press conference in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump said, “No, I’m not sending troops anywhere,” but added, “If it were, I definitely wouldn’t tell you.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the Pentagon’s role is to provide the President with “maximum options” during crises. She clarified that such preparations do not signal a final decision and reiterated that the President is not currently planning to send ground troops.

Military officials also held meetings to plan logistics for the capture and detention of Iranian personnel and paramilitary members in the event of an invasion, according to CBS News. These plans also include determining where detainees will be processed and held.

The United States, along with the Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Army’s Global Response Force, are preparing elements of the 82nd Airborne Division for potential deployment.

Thousands of seafarers are currently moving to the Middle East. Three Navy ships carrying approximately 2,200 sailors recently departed California; This marks the second such deployment since the conflict began. Another unit, previously diverted from the Pacific theater, is still en route.

These developments reflect the Pentagon’s efforts to expand military options and maintain high levels of readiness as tensions continue in the region.
