People Are Sharing The Exact Moment They Realized Friends And Family Members Were Living In A Completely Different Reality, And It’s Both Haunting And Incredibly Sad
Tensions around the world are higher than ever, and while it’s nothing new for people to disagree, sometimes it goes far beyond “That’s my point of view.” Sometimes it feels like we live in completely different realities.
We recently published an article that people are sharing”the moment when they fully realize that their friends and family members are living in a completely different reality than their own.,” and the list really struck a chord with people and the comment section EXPLODED. So much so that we had to keep this conversation going. So, here are more examples of people failing to bridge the gap between themselves and their friends and family.
1. “My brother doesn’t believe in bird flu. He thinks it’s a hoax made up by the Democrats and that only one chicken is sick and the Democrats are killing all the other chickens to raise the price of eggs. My sister-in-law believes that kids in schools dress like animals and describe themselves as animals. She believes in the trash bin nonsense, too. They’re both fucking crazy.”

2. “A former colleague told me that Colin Kaepernick was only protesting because he wanted a book deal. Yeah, nothing like ruining his career as an NFL quarterback so he can finally make real money in publishing.”
3. “I know people who think 5G causes cancer, that 9/11 was an inside job, and that reptilian aliens live among us. It’s scary because some of these people come off as smart and well-spoken, and then the bullshit starts. That’s my cue to slowly back off.”
4. “There are people in my life who believe that chemical traces are not just water vapor, but a nefarious substance that the government uses to control people.”

5. “My stepmom said Biden was a cloned AI robot and it was malfunctioning, that’s why he acted like that towards the end of his presidency. I laughed, and she said she was serious. We don’t discuss ANYTHING political anymore, or I’ll leave.”
6. “My father told me that Fauci owns the patent for the AIDS virus.”

7. “‘Millions of illegal voters voted!’ I have a family that says. Okay, but Texas spent a ton of money researching this, hoping to find a bunch of samples. All they found was a woman who voted because she believed she was born in the United States. Just one. He voted Republican.
8. “My father was a total anti-mask person. We once went somewhere together and he refused to wear a mask. We argued about it, and in the process I told him that he was endangering not only his own life but also the lives of others. ‘If I die, then it was my time. If they die, then it was their time,’ he said. I felt sick. I always knew my father was a bad person, but this was a breaking point for me. I don’t talk to him anymore.”

“Under this logic, it is morally acceptable to drive drunk, throw children into a pool or swim in a pool, or fry a steak over an open gas tank in the woods. Sometimes no-contact may be necessary for both physical safety and mental health.”
9. “The idiots I know who haven’t vaccinated their kids yet are definitely vaccinated themselves and TOTALLY FINE. I wonder where they’re having their measles parties?”
10. “Everyone who said Sandy Hook was a hoax.”

11. “My sister-in-law was very vocal about not wearing a mask during Covid. She was always posting that it was ‘violating her rights’ and ‘COVID isn’t that bad, they’re manipulating the numbers’ and blah, blah, blah. She was adamant that they were just trying to scare us. Her brother, an otherwise healthy 46-year-old, was later found unresponsive at his home. He was in a coma for six days and then died of COVID.”
12. “I see a lot of the younger generations saying that there wasn’t a plane hitting the towers or the Pentagon on 9/11 and that the towers fell because of explosives. I just want to scream! Like, I watched it all happen in real time and it was so traumatic and so real.”

13. “I knew my daughter’s best friend’s family was very conservative/full MAGA, but when my daughter told me that her best friend’s family wouldn’t vote for Kamala Harris because she was ‘forcing kids in California to ‘be transgender,’ I knew we had reached (another) new low in the national discourse. To make matters worse, the bestie’s mom is a TEACHER at school and her dad is in the National Guard and works as their school’s Resource Officer.”
14. “For my part, I realized the day of my grandmother’s funeral that my uncle had actually fallen down the rabbit hole. First, he pulled my aunt’s mask off (her sister-in-law’s) face at church. She was trying to protect herself because her daughter (her niece) was scheduled for a c-section and didn’t want to get COVID beforehand. Turns out my aunt was smart about wearing the mask because most of us got COVID. Most of us were sensible and Quarantined Ourselves? My Uncle? He went out of state to find horse worms because Trump said it worked.” “I knew this myth existed, but I never knew anyone who would actually try it. But the real nail in it was learning that the Democrats believed they could control the weather…”
15. “Unfortunately, there’s a conspiracy theory going on when I’m in a group chat with my friend. Some of the things she believes: Covid-19 is no worse than the flu, vaccines don’t work, all the transphobic rhetoric, and the election is being rigged.”

“I would always debunk his theories with sources like the BBC, NYTimes, AP, etc. and he would say they were fake and give me an article from some random website. We started another group chat without him because we were all sick of the nonsense he was saying. The worst part was we were talking about something trivial like what our weekends were like and he would pop up with an article saying 9/11 was an inside job. It was like no one even mentioned anything remotely related to 9/11.”
16. “There are too many people I know who are unwilling to RESEARCH to verify whether the information is real or not. What do you mean by blindly accepting the nonsense some newspapers tell you?”
17. “My sister-in-law couldn’t believe that a seaside town that was usually a popular working-class summer vacation spot was empty. She mentioned it a few times, and I said people didn’t really feel secure about their future right now. ‘Trump hasn’t had enough time yet,’ she said. I stopped talking to her because there was no point in trying to explain that Trump had caused nothing but chaos both times he was in office and was only helping the ultra-rich. If he can’t see it by now, he never will, and I didn’t want to cause a huge rift in the family.”

18. “Last Friday I was in a bar and someone started telling me that the school in the next town had litter bins for students who identified as cats. These stories are going around!”

19. “I knew when my dad told me the photos and videos I saw from Gaza were all AI. He’s not MAGA, but I know some of his golf buddies are. He’d forward emails to me about Obama being a ‘Kenyan, baby-eating, Satan-worshiping secret Muslim Communist demon.’ He also thinks he’s the smartest, most competent person in the room no matter what, especially around women or any AFAB. He’s so racist and sexist.”
20. “My sister doesn’t believe in climate change because ‘there’s no way humans could do something that would affect the entire world.’ “He thinks the heatwaves and catastrophic weather events of the past years have something to do with normal changes in the sun, and that everything will resolve once the sun fades away.”
