People Told to Stay Safe During Rains

Hyderabad: Telangana Director of Public Health and Family Welfare has issued a general health advisory to citizens to stay protected during rain. IMD, Hyderabad issues a week-long light to moderate rainfall forecast in the state; This can cause temperature drops, high humidity and lead to seasonal diseases, especially vector-, water- and air-borne diseases. To protect against these diseases, here are a few tips to stay healthy during the rainy season.

People were told to protect themselves from mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue fever, malaria and chikunguniya by covering doors and windows with nets or screens, using mosquito repellents, covering beds with nets and preventing stagnant water around homes.

In order to get rid of stagnant water around houses, citizens are advised to celebrate Friday as a ‘dry day’ every week. To prevent waterborne diseases such as jaundice and typhoid, people were advised to drink filtered or boiled water, wash hands especially before and after meals, and avoid stale food. To protect against airborne diseases such as viral fever and flu, people have been asked to avoid shaking hands with sick people. They were told to use disinfectant and cover their mouths when coughing and sneezing. Those with flu-like symptoms were told to contact the nearest government health facility.
