Left seeks to create immigration martyrs as Trump ramps up ICE enforcement

As the Trump administration ramps up enforcement against illegal immigration and cracks down on welfare fraud, the radical left is stepping up its tactics in a calculated attempt to create martyrs.

We’ve seen this before, but today’s ideological fervor, backed by wealthy donors and outside influences, makes it much more dangerous. From obstructing ICE operations to protecting massive fraud schemes in states like Minnesota, Illinois, California, and New York, the left isn’t just resisting; is preparing for a fight with the aim of sparking widespread unrest.

Signs are everywhere. In recent days, we have witnessed pro-nullification governors and mayors openly defying federal authority, fueling violent rhetoric following the shooting death of Rachel Good in Minneapolis after she allegedly tried to run over a federal law enforcement officer. This provocation by elected officials inevitably increases the threat of violence against ICE agents. This is a calculated strategy.

As New York Post reportedGood was a so-called “ICE Watch” activist who a friend called a “warrior.” So Good was there to disrupt the federal law enforcement operation, and luckily he was filmed doing it.

But Trump and federal law enforcement must not back down; They must defeat professional agitators with agile tactics.

Elected officials on the left are fomenting hysteria not only to raise funds and fend off key challenges from more extreme wings, but also to provoke conflicts that could produce martyrs. As history shows, martyrs are powerful accelerators of political violence, as the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in 2020 demonstrated. They rally the base and demonize opponents; The two main strategic goals are to pressure administrations to retreat while hurting Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 presidential contest.

Take the ongoing fight against welfare fraud. In Minnesota, the Feeding Our Future scandal exposed a staggering $250 million in stolen federal funds intended for child nutrition during the pandemic. Somali immigrants, some with ties to questionable nonprofits, have apparently funneled money abroad, including to potential terrorist groups. But when federal investigators dig deeper, left-wing activists and politicians shout invective, framing it as racial persecution. This is not an isolated case.

Audits in Illinois uncovered billions of dollars in improper Medicaid payments, often linked to uncontrolled immigration. California’s Medi-Cal program is a black hole of fraud, with estimates estimated to exceed $20 billion a year, made worse by sanctuary policies that protect illegal immigrants. New York’s welfare system is faring no better, with overpayments and little oversight.

The left wants these investigations to be stopped; not because they are unfounded, but because exposing the rot undermines the discourse of open borders and eternal rights.

So why the martyr campaign? This stems from a deep understanding of revolutionary psychology. Today’s agitators are not the opportunistic plunderers of past uprisings; They are professional organizers who are ideologically driven, often funded by left-wing billionaires and overseas sources, including China. Beijing has an interest in sowing chaos here, weakening America from within and advancing its global goals. These groups know that high-profile deaths in clashes with ICE can trigger anger amplified by media that generates nationwide sympathy.

This brings me to a personal reflection on my time in uniform. As a young Army intelligence officer in 1992, I was assigned to the California National Guard to quell the Los Angeles riots in the wake of Rodney King’s verdict. For days, gangs and criminals became bolder every night. False rumors spread like wildfire: that we Guards had no ammunition or were forbidden from using our weapons. It encouraged criminal gangs. Leftist agitators were there too, handing out flyers and organizing, trying to spark a full-blown revolution. But their raw materials were poor; they were mostly opportunistic criminals uninterested in dying for a cause.

Then came a turning point. One night, a man tried to run towards the Security checkpoint. In self-defense, soldiers opened fire and killed him. The next day the streets changed. Gangs and criminals were suddenly on their best behavior. The rumors were proven to be false.

Compare this to today. In 1992, the agitators failed because the rebels were not ideological fanatics willing to become martyrs. Now the motivation is different.

Protests against President Donald Trump and ICE are organized by groups like Antifa and lavishly funded pro-Palestinian networks based on Marxist ideology. They want a martyr to fuel their narrative of “fascist” oppression.

Just look at historical examples. Following Virginia’s secession during the secession crisis of 1860–61, federal troops occupied Alexandria. U.S. Army Colonel Elmer Ellsworth, a friend of President Abraham Lincoln, was shot and killed while removing a Confederate flag from a hotel. Hotel owner James Jackson was killed seconds later in response. The Union and the Confederacy claimed their first casualties overnight, sparking a conflict that claimed more than 620,000 lives in four years of bloody conflict.

We cannot let history repeat itself. The left’s strategy relies on predictable sanctions that give agitators time to mobilize, film clashes and escalate tensions. Trump and ICE need to adapt to prevent further shootings. They can do this by quickly changing operations, using intelligence to disrupt meetings in advance, and using non-lethal means whenever possible. They need to divert resources to fraud hotspots like Minnesota’s Somali communities or California’s sanctuary cities, but they do so unpredictably. They must cooperate with willing government officials to bypass the cancelers. And they need to uncover trails of funding, tracking down the money coming from billionaire foundations and China-linked entities that is fueling the unrest.

Backing down would hand the left a victory, encourage further defiance, and erode the rule of law. Instead, smart sanctions will drain the swamp of fraud, secure our borders, and deny radicals precious martyrs. America has faced worse threats. Determination wins the day.

Trump must proceed decisively but wisely for the sake of America’s future.
