Perth mum stunned after camera records armed intruder stealing phone and bag

A young mother was left horrified when a mallet-wielding intruder quietly entered her family’s home and came within meters of where she and her young child were sleeping.

Chillingly, when the woman checked her security cameras hoping to find answers about her missing items, she realized an uninvited visitor was just around the corner.

“I’m so scared because I don’t know when he entered the room because I fell asleep,” Huong told 7NEWS.

“I panicked a lot because if I had woken up, maybe he would have attacked me.”

After the man walked through the open back door of the Ballajura home, a phone rang. perthin the north early Thursday morning.

He wasn’t done yet, so he returned and entered the bedroom to steal a bag.

Huong and her four-year-old son slept through the ordeal.

While reviewing security footage for answers about the missing items, he made a disturbing discovery.

“(He was panicking) because I (seen) the video and he had a hammer in his hand,” Huong said.

The same man is thought to have stolen a bike from his neighbor the night before.

After coroners arrived at the mother’s home Friday, they took photos and dusted for fingerprints.

Burglaries in the suburb have increased to almost once a week compared to last year, but such crimes are down across Perth.

Detectives continue to search for the intruder.
