Industry body SEA warns new vegetable oil rules may challenge smaller producers

The new Delhi, August 20 (PTI), the government’s new herbal oil regulation has been pointing to the biggest revision of the sector for more than a decis, but can install thousands of small manufacturers deprived of digital infrastructure.

Herbal Petroleum Products Production and Usability (Regulation) replaces the basic provisions of the 2025, 2025, 2011, and the 2008 Statistical Law, which tries to increase transparency and data accuracy along the value chain, is aligned with collection.

While larger players can quickly adapt to new requirements, the President of the Solvent Extracters Association (SEA) warned that thousands of small and unorganized manufacturers can fight compulsory portal -based registration and monthly filing requirements without digital systems.

“The bigger question is whether the government can define all these units,” Asthana said in a statement. He said. “Without full coverage, compatibility gaps can continue despite the more strict rules, and overcome the objectives of the order.” He said.

The amended order requires monthly reports up to 15 of each month, elaborating on oil usage, production and other operational data, increasing industry concerns about data privacy and technical reliability.

Asthana emphasized practical challenges, including strong measures in privacy, data usage between departments and technical failures near the process final delivery dates.

The industrial organ also defines more clearly for some blended or added products and called for a reasonable transition time schedule to prevent confusion and market interruption.

According to the regulation, “the change increases transparency, facilitates better market intelligence and supports evidence -based policy”.

Despite implementation concerns, Asthana admitted that a well -regulated and documented sector would ultimately improve policy and increase India’s global competitiveness in vegetable oils.

“The switch did not stay large or small or in the edible oil industry.”

The Indian Solver Extractors Association represents 875 members, including approximately 350 working solvent extraction facilities with a processing capacity of approximately 30 million tons per year.
